About this role

Role highlights: Smart Manufacturing Engineer, SW & Electronics Location: Espoo, Finland Department: Global Manufacturing Organization Reports to: Smart Manufacturing, Team Leader Employment type: Permanent Workplace model: Hybrid Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO, where required) Why this role matters: As a Smart Manufacturing Engineer, SW & Electronics, you will help ensure our satellites can be tested reliably and efficiently before they are launched to space. You will design and own Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and satellite‑level test systems that combine electronics, embedded software and automation. Your work will directly support AIT and Production teams, keeping critical test setups running while building the next generation of EGSEs to scale ICEYE’s manufacturing. Who We Are ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE’s world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy – day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits. As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE’s near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience. ICEYE is headquartered in Finland and operates globally across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. We have more than 900 employees, united by a shared vision: improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation. Your day-to-day responsibilities Support AIT and Production teams in running and troubleshooting RF, electronics and satellite‑level test setups, especially in your first months. Design, develop and maintain EGSE systems that combine electronics, embedded software and Python-based test automation. Capture requirements and define architectures for new test systems together with AIT Engineering, Production and other Engineering teams. Implement and debug embedded C/C++ code on ARM‑based MCUs (e.g. STM32, TI), including bring‑up, interface control and communication with instruments. Design or adapt electronics for EGSE (schematics, interfaces, power, measurement paths) and work with mechanical engineers on the overall solution. Use Python and tools like PyVISA to automate instruments, collect data and improve test workflows. Write clear, maintainable documentation and user guides so others can operate and maintain the systems you build. Contribute to improving existing legacy test setups, increasing reliability, repeatability and ease of use. Collaborate closely with other Smart Manufacturing engineers (mechanical, electronics, software) and share knowledge within the team. What we’re looking for Must haves: 5+ years of experience in electronics / embedded systems / test development, ideally in complex or high‑reliability products. Hands‑on experience with ARM‑based MCUs (e.g. STM32 or TI), including embedded C/C++ development and debugging. Practical experience designing or modifying electronics for test or control (schematics, interfaces, power, signal integrity basics). Strong Python skills for test automation, scripting and instrument control (e.g. PyVISA or similar). Familiarity with Altium Designer (or similar) for PCB design Comfortable using common lab and RF test equipment such as oscilloscopes, PSUs, multimeters, power loads, VNAs and spectrum analyzers. Ability to work onsite in Espoo in labs and production areas, including hands‑on support when issues arise. Strong communication and documentation skills, and a collaborative mindset Experience with satellite or spacecraft EGSE, nanosatellites or other space/aerospace test systems. Nice to haves: Exposure to RF test setups (antennas, payloads, RF front‑ends) beyond the basic use of the instruments. Experience in automation, robotics or similar domains where HW+FW+SW test systems are common. Familiarity with KiCad, STM32CubeIDE, GCC/GDB or similar toolchains. Experience developing and standardizing test setups, including documentation and process improvements.
