About this role

Company Description

Butterfly Network, Inc. (NYSE: BFLY) is driving a digital revolution in ultrasound imaging and sensing with its proprietary Ultrasound-on-Chip™ semiconductor technology and software solutions. Butterfly first proved its technology in the point-of-care ultrasound market – commercializing the world’s first single-probe, whole-body portable ultrasound device, which is now on its best-selling, third-generation: Butterfly iQ3™. The Company combines its advanced hardware with cloud software and AI, an enterprise workflow solution (Compass AI™) and other offerings to drive adoption of affordable, accessible ultrasound. Butterfly also enables third-party development of imaging AI apps through Butterfly Garden™, its software development kit and AI partnership initiative.

In addition to its medical imaging products, Butterfly Embedded™ is the Company’s Ultrasound-on-Chip™ licensing and co-development program designed to enable a new wave of ultrasound-enabled technologies across non-competitive healthcare markets and beyond. Job Description

Do you consider yourself one of the best ultrasound imaging engineers in the world? Do you love the mathematics associated with beam forming the complex sound echoes returning from the body. Do you like to create the hardware and software that accelerate algorithms beyond what others believe possible? Do you like to modify algorithms to achieve even more efficient results? Do you enjoy collaborating with similarly talented and driven individuals? Would you like to be part of the nimble, elite Ultrasound Imaging Team at the most progressive ultrasound producer in the medical device industry? If so, this role is for you.

The Imaging team at Butterfly Network are the experts that work at the intersection of all critical components of our business to make Butterfly’s magic happen. We work with our customers to correlate their clinical needs with our technical specifications. We innovate all of the ultrasound modes (b-mode, color imaging, 3D, PWD, biplane, needle-viz) that delight our customers. We champion hardware and software architectures required to achieve our clinical performance objectives. We are the integrators, optimizers, and champions of Image Quality for every clinical application.

Join this team and help us change healthcare around the world.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:

• Developing new or evolving existing ultrasound modes

• Owning specific clinical applications (e.g. cardiology), and becoming expert in the

clinical needs of that community

• Working closely with our clinical team to optimize your application for image quality

• Partnering with our HW, SW, Transducer and ASIC teams to advance next generation

devices and to innovate advanced processing algorithms

• Owning specific parts of our image processing pipeline (e.g. frequency compounding,

scan conversion). Implement these processes using Python, C++, or GPU coding

• Performing a broad variety of tasks in support of the role and responsibilities.

Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

• M.S. or PhD in EE, Physics, or related field

• Industry or academic experience in diagnostic ultrasound or related field (7+ years)

• Fundamental knowledge of basic ultrasound modes: B-mode, Doppler Color Flow

Imaging, etc

• Understanding of beamforming, diffraction, synthetic aperture fundamentals

• Passionate and competent at working closely with the hardware

• Strong software skills, especially in C, C++, Cuda, OpenCL, Python

• Strong modeling skills using both Python and Matlab

• Advanced Mathematical, Signal and Image Processing skills

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

• Project leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate the activities of colleagues

• Basic knowledge of electrical analog and digital circuits

• Ability to design and program FPGA’s using Verilog

• Understanding of human physiology, especially as it relates to ultrasound
