About this role
Our client is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking Chief Operating Officer to lead the operational performance, engineering strategy, and capital-project execution of its diversified renewable-generation portfolio.
The COO will serve as an operating interface for execution and efficient capital deployment between the clients day-to-day operating organization, the Chief Executive Officer, and PE . This executive will translate ownership objectives and enterprise strategy into disciplined operational execution, measurable financial performance, prudent capital deployment, and sustainable long-term growth.
The successful candidate will provide integrated leadership across Operations, Engineering, and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (PROJECT EXECUTION). The role requires an executive who is equally comfortable presenting portfolio performance and capital priorities to PE and the Board, visiting facilities, engaging operating teams, resolving execution barriers, and driving measurable improvement.
Executive Mandate
Convert strategic and investment objectives into executable operating and capital plans.Act as the primary operating interface between Client and Private Equity, providing transparent reporting, forward-looking analysis, and clear accountability for results.Integrate Operations, Engineering, and PROJECT EXECUTION into a coordinated organization with common priorities, decision rights, performance measures, and execution standards.Improve safety, availability, generation, reliability, operating margins, and capital efficiency across the portfolio.Build the people, systems, processes, and organizational capabilities necessary to support Clients next phase of growth.Create a proactive operating culture that anticipates risk, challenges established practices, embraces innovation, and consistently delivers commitments.
Principal responsibilities
Enterprise and ownership leadership
Partner with the CEO, PE, and the Board to establish operating strategy, annual objectives, capital priorities, and long-range performance expectations.Translate investment theses and enterprise objectives into operational initiatives, milestones, budgets, and accountabilities.Provide concise, fact-based reporting on operating performance, capital execution, material risks, emerging issues, and value-creation opportunities.Present informed recommendations and alternatives rather than merely reporting problems.Balance near-term financial commitments with the long-term reliability, integrity, and value of the generating assets.Participate in strategic planning, portfolio optimization, acquisitions, integrations, divestitures, and other enterprise decisions.Operations
Lead the safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of a geographically dispersed generating portfolio.Establish a consistent operating model across regions and facilities while recognizing site-specific requirements.Drive improvements in generation, availability, outage performance, operating costs, preventive maintenance, workforce productivity, and asset reliability.Establish clear operating standards, performance indicators, management routines, and escalation protocols.Ensure material operating risks and emerging asset conditions are identified early and addressed through disciplined action plans.Strengthen emergency preparedness, business continuity, incident management, and operational resilience.Engineering and asset performance
Direct the engineering strategy required to maintain and enhance portfolio safety, reliability, performance, and useful life.Establish disciplined asset-condition assessment, risk-based maintenance, lifecycle planning, and capital prioritization.Oversee technical standards, design governance, engineering quality, dam-safety coordination, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.Advance automation, remote monitoring, predictive analytics, condition-based maintenance, and other performance-enhancing technologies.Develop a portfolio-wide asset-management roadmap supported by reliable operating and engineering data.

PROJECT EXECUTION and capital-project execution
Provide executive oversight of PROJECT EXECUTION activities, major maintenance programs, rehabilitations, upgrades, expansions, and other capital projects.Establish rigorous stage-gate processes covering business cases, engineering readiness, cost estimates, schedules, contracting strategy, risk assessment, construction, commissioning, and operational turnover.Improve capital forecasting, project controls, change management, contractor oversight, and accountability for cost and schedule commitments.Conduct regular reviews of the capital portfolio, focusing attention on critical risks, dependencies, variances, and recovery plans.Ensure completed projects achieve intended safety, reliability, generation, and financial benefits.Safety, risk, and regulatory performance
